EVER HEAR OF A "CHIEN CHAUD"?
Excusez-moi Monsieur, je veux un chien chaud!! I first learned about the chien chaud while reading an article a few years back in a leading French journal calling for the restoration of the French language and the permanent ousting of such English terms as french fries (pommes frites), Internet (called minitel in France), Paris Hilton and Hot Dog! It was at that point, while peering out of the Champs Elysees-facing balcony on the George Cinq hotel in Paris that I noticed the Crazy Horse…one of the city’s most fabled club lounges. Why didn’t the French government crack down on this blatant abuse of the French language? In an effort to correct this neon-lit faux-pas, I seized the opportunity afforded by the launch of the first-ever American grown Hermitage wine in France. . . Le Cheval Fou was born! Mais oui, we have done our part to eliminate yet another unnecessary English term from the French language. Read on.
We are very excited to finally share with you our newest project. During the past few years, under a cloak of great secrecy, our unbridled passion for wine has led us from the Napa Valley into uncharted territory --
nosing around a small appellation in the southeastern region of France before arriving at the legendary and most prestigious area in the Rhone Valley: Hermitage!
For the first time ever in history, “outsiders” have gained access to and control over an amazing 3-acre vineyard parcel, and we’re now in partnership with one of the most prolific wine producers in France. Our inaugural release is just under 400 cases of wine. |
